What is the difference between a low carbon steel wire mesh shelf and a stainless steel wire mesh shelf?
1. Low carbon steel rack, its material is also commonly known as mild steel, carbon content from 0.10% to 0.30% low carbon steel is easy to accept various processing such as forging, welding and cutting, commonly used in the manufacture of chains, rivets, Bolts, shafts, etc. Carbon steel with a carbon content of less than 0.25% is also called mild steel because of its low strength, low hardness and softness. It includes most ordinary carbon structural steel and some high-quality carbon structural steel, most of which are used for engineering structural parts without heat treatment, and some are used for mechanical parts requiring wear resistance after carburizing and other heat treatment. Mild steel is a very hard, tough metal material. Mild steel is relatively low cost, but its hardness is good for shelving and displays in the home or commercial area.
2. Stainless steel shelves, the common ones on the market are SUS304 stainless steel and SUS201 stainless steel
Stainless steel refers to steel that is resistant to weak corrosive media such as air, steam, and water, and chemically corrosive media such as acid, alkali, and salt, also known as stainless acid-resistant steel. Stainless steel has two aspects: stainless and corrosion-resistant, respectively called stainless steel and corrosion-resistant steel, collectively referred to as stainless steel. General steel can be divided into:
a, low carbon steel, usually C% < 0.25%, called low carbon steel, low strength, good plasticity and weldability.
b, medium carbon steel, C% in 0.25 ~ 0.60%, called medium carbon steel, has higher strength, but poor plasticity and weldability.
c, high carbon steel, C%>0.60%, called high carbon steel. Plasticity and weldability are poor, but high strength and hardness after heat treatment. The carbon content of high carbon steel is between 0.6% and 2%, and if it exceeds 2%, it is cast iron. The standard of stainless steel is to contain Cr12 or more, which is used to indicate whether it is resistant to rust and corrosion by containing Cr and Ni respectively. He can also have low carbon and high carbon. The main function of carbon in general steel is to increase the hardness. In stainless steel, it affects the intergranular corrosion performance, and of course it can also increase the hardness.
In short, the difference between low carbon steel and stainless steel mainly lies in the strength of anti-rust and anti-corrosion ability; the anti-rust and anti-corrosion effect of stainless steel is much stronger than that of carbon steel, so the price of stainless steel is higher than that of low carbon steel (except special steel). The quality of the material of the rack is to choose the appropriate steel according to the use, rather than simply based on the price of the steel.
In general, carbon steel is widely used for structural steel without rust-proof requirements, and stainless steel is a special-purpose steel used for general decoration and special rust-proof occasions. Due to the large cost difference between the two, stainless steel contains a variety of precious metals, so the price is generally several times higher than that of low-carbon steel, but the general stainless steel has lower strength.
